So this is what I have been struck with in the past 24 hours:
God controls everything.
Even when we believe that we control certain situations.
I’m learning quickly that, even if we don’t listen to the direction of the Lord, the Lord STILL controls EVERYTHING.
This may sound obvious or juvenile, but even though I’ve always “known” this, it takes situations that are obviously outside of our control for me to realize this.
Last night, I got nearly no sleep…nightmares all night long. Want to know what they were about? …Disasterous happenings on the way to Passion 2010 in Atlanta this weekend. From my car breaking down, losing my credit card, not finding a place to eat, etc. etc.
Worry much?…..even in my DREAMS!
Last night I had a worry attack about this and another big issue for me right now and my dear friend pointed me to this passage:
Do Not Worry
25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]?
28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
So basically I learned this: IT DOES NOT MATTER.
NOTHING MATTERS, except HIM.
In verse 25, he talks about life. It just dawned on me that the importance of “life” he is talking about is not so much that of a worldly life, he is speaking of our eternal life. When we get that nailed down, nothing else matters.
When we learn to trust the Lord with EVERTHING and give it ALL to Him, we don’t have to worry, because the plan is in the hands of the only one that has any control over it.
In the uncertainty of this new year, please join me in learning to TRUST. It’s going to be difficult, but it will resolve any worry that we have.
